Win $600 Gift Card & Mint Brownie Cake Balls Recipe

Wow, that week sure went fast! So are you interested in winning the $600 American Express gift card? Last week on Monday, I talked about the new American Express Blue cards where you can earn up to 6% back on your groceries. In addition, they are sponsoring a $600 American Express gift card giveaway to reader of my blog! This is a awesome prize!

Entering to win the $600 gift card is easy! You just have to post a comment with a dessert recipe with 6 ingredients or less on the my post, American Express Blue Cards & $600 Giveaway. You could be a big winner! Hurry because entries end on July 31st and I will post the winner on August 1st.

Last week, I posted a nice healthy low calorie dessert. Well, it is a good thing that you saved your calories! Here is my dessert recipe for this week with 6 ingredients.

Jr Mint Brownie Cake Balls

Brownie mix (make according to directions on box)
Eggs ( for the brownies)
Oil (for the brownies)
Can of vanilla frosting
Bag of chocolate chips
Box of Jr Mints

First, make the brownies according to the directions on the box. Let the brownies cool for a little while and then crumble then into a bowl. Stir in the vanilla frosting. I use about 3/4 of the can of frosting. Stir until the brownies and frosting are mixed together.

Put the mixture in the refrigerator for about 1/2 hour. This will make it easier to roll into balls. Take a Jr Mint and then take some of the brownie cake mixture, roll it around the Jr Mint so it forms a small ball. Don't worry if the Jr Mint gets squished. Place the balls on wax paper. When finished making balls, put them in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

After the 2 hours, melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler. When the chips are melted, dip in a brownie cake ball and roll it around so it is covered in chocolate. You can use a fork or spoon to lift the dipped cake ball onto wax paper. After dipping all the cake balls, put them in the refrigerator until the chocolate is hard.

So yummy! I confess that I will eat these right after they have been dipped in chocolate. I just can't stand waiting to have one!

Warning! Check your blog button for Sour Apple Studio Design. I was messing around and checking the links on my blog. My design was done by LindseyJoy Design which had changed to Sour Apple Studio Design. Well, the button on my sidebar went on a redirect to Which definitely is not a blog design business.

I know that other blogs have this button posted so I wanted to try to warn everyone. I am not sure what happened to Sour Apple Studio. Maybe Lindsey is not doing blog designs anymore. Anyways, check your button so your readers do not get an unhappy surprise.

One lucky reader will have the opportunity to win a $600 American Express Gift Card ! You just need to submit a dessert recipe using six ingredients or less. First, check out my simple 6 ingredient dessert recipe below.

Here is my go-to dessert recipe that is easy and takes just 6 ingredients:

Frozen Fruit Medley Dessert Cups

This is a great dessert for summer! Cool and refreshing without many calories. Also cheaper in summer since it asks for fresh fruit.

2 ripe bananas, peeled
1 C. fresh strawberries
1 (8 oz) can of crushed pineapple in juice, drained
2 T. honey
Dash of ground nutmeg
1 C frozen whipped topping, thawed

Place bananas, strawberries, pineapple, honey and nutmeg in blender container. Process until smooth.

Pour into large bowl. Fold in whipped topping. Line 12 muffin cups with foil liners. Fill with fruit mixture. Cover and freeze until firm (about 2 hours). To serve, remove foil liners, garnish with additional whipped topping and cut strawberries.

Doesn't that look so yummy! This is a great dessert with few calories and kids love it too!

Netflix Price Increase

If you are a Netflix subscriber, then you received the email about Netflix raising prices starting September 1st for current subscribers and immediately for new subscribers. I am not the only one who thinks that Netflix is shooting themselves with this price increase.

Right now I pay for the 1 dvd at time and I get the streaming. The cost is $9.99. Also I pay for my mom's service at the same price. This was a Christmas gift for her since they live so far out of town. So right now, I pay $20 to Netflix a month.

So after the price increase, I would be paying $32 a month. So an increase of $12 per month or $144 a year. So overall it isn't too bad BUT it is a large increase for something that is already a luxury. I don't need Netflix. Quite frankly, I would probably be better off watching less TV anyway.

My bottom line is that I am not willing to pay a dime more than I paid before. Of course, I need to keep my mom's subscription. She doesn't use the streaming video because her internet is too slow. So I will change hers to dvd only for $7.99. Yahoo, a decrease there.

The problem for me is the subscription for my house. I could go with the streaming only option for $7.99 but Netflix has a limited supply of movies and TV shows for streaming. Actually lately I am having a hard time finding something that I want to watch on the streaming. I could go with the 1 dvd at a time but it takes a while to get the dvd. If I am diligent about watching the movie right away and returning it right away, I can get about 2 movies a week. Hmm.. 2 movies a week x 4 weeks = 8 movies = same price as Redbox and I have wait for the movie to arrive.

Redbox has opened close to my house so I do have a great choice for new releases. I am going to have to look into my other options. I think that I might keep the streaming only for $7.99 . My total cost per month would be $16 for my service and my mom's service.

Another really stinky thing is that if you change now, it takes effect now. So on August 31st, I need to remember to change my subscription. They should have really put in an option where you could put in the date of the change. Stinky in my book.

What do think about the price increase? Are you going to drop Netflux?

Extreme Couponing Backlash is Everywhere

All of us "old couponers" knew that it was going to happen. We knew that companies and grocery stores would not like seeing couponers with basements full of free or extremely cheap products. We knew that after seeing the Extreme Couponing show, many people would try to become extreme couponers. As newbies, they would try to imitate the extreme couponers habits and try to take short cuts. Granted they would make honest mistakes also but their naivete could cause grocery stores to change their coupon policies and crack down on coupon usage.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to save some money by using coupons. Heck, I have been using coupons since I was a kid. My mom used coupons and taught me about saving money. I subscribed to Refunding Makes Cents when it was the largest refunding and couponing magazine. Way before the Internet.

So if you are a new couponer, try to follow the "coupon etiquette" rules.
Here are some things that you should
not do:

• Taking all the coupons off the coupon tear pads at the store.

• Stealing (Yes, stealing!) coupon inserts from papers that you have not purchased.

• Taking (Stealing again!) papers from people's houses because you thought they were gone and didn't need the paper.

• Tearing coupons off products that you have not purchased.

• Clearing the shelves and not leaving any products for someone else. You see this a lot on the Extreme Couponing show.

• Using coupons for the wrong item.

I don't blame the new couponers. I blame the Extreme Couponing show which has shown most of the offenses listed above.

My local paper ran a story yesterday saying that coupon theft at the grocery stores has really increased. Many of the stores have started putting their coupons up at the customer service counter so customers have to ask for a specific coupon. Target just changed their coupon policy also. I don't have double coupons in my area but I would not be surprised if some stores stop doubling coupons because of the TV show.

If everyone uses coupons responsibly then we will all benefit!
